From September until May, students leave church on Sundays immediately following Holy Communion to go to the Sunday School rooms adjacent to the Community Center. The classes are taught for 45 min.
Our purpose is to help our students grow in their love for and knowledge of Jesus Christ through the Greek Orthodox Church. We use a variety of materials including texts from the Greek Orthodox Department of Religious Education and the Orthodox Christian Education Commission, programs from and teacher made materials. We also use discussion groups, film, songs, prayer, and crafts to assist children in their spiritual growth.
Sunday School students participate in Vacation Bible School, the Annual Christmas Pageant and the St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival. In addition, we have monthly sessions led by Stacey Norton (choir director0, that will concentrate on learning some of the hymns of the church and building a youth choir. Through these activities we are able to teach our youth history, theology, faith, and love.
Over 210 students are served through 8 classes, Pre-K through grade 12. The classes are divided as follows: Pre-school, Kindergarten, Grades 1-2, Grades 3-4, Grades 5-6, Grades 7-8, Grades 9-10.
